PLAQUEMINE, La (AP) - Authorities say a motorcyclist has died in an accident with two trucks and two passenger vehicles on westbound lanes of Interstate 10 in Louisiana that forced the route to be closed in that area while the wreck was investigated.
State police Trooper Russell Graham confirmed the fatality Thursday but said the motorcycle driver's identity wasn't being released immediately. He also said there was no initial report on a possible cause.
Authorities say the accident occurred on westbound lanes of the Atchafalaya River bridge at the Whiskey Bay exit around 5 p.m. Traffic backed up for several miles afterward and sheriff's deputies sought to ease congestion by detouring motorists onto neighboring highways. One lane later was reopened.
Interstate 10 is a major east-west crossing with often heavy truck and passenger traffic.
