JEFF DAVIS PARISH, LA (KPLC) - Lawmakers came together in Jeff Davis Parish and Acadia Parish on Thursday to give citizens a preview of what issues will be brought up in the Louisiana legislature.
"There are three big issues we will be facing and they are retirement funds, education and this looming 800 million dollar deficit in the budget," Republican Senator Dan Moorish said.
Morrish said that in 2010, Louisiana had a $1.5 billion deficit and in 2011 a $1.2 billion deficit.
"There are going to be a few black eyes and bloody noses in the legislature this go around so keep your eye on everything that is going on," Representative John E. Guinn said.
Both Morrish and Guinn said they are proponents of charter schools and a major education reform.
The 2012 Legislative Session will begin March 12, 2012.
