LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Metro detectives discovered an active meth lab operation Wednesday in the Kenwood neighborhood just east of Iroquois Park. According to the arrest reports there were also two young children in the home at the time of the arrest.
Police watched 31-year-old Nicholas B. Shope drive away from the home and stopped him when he failed to use his turn signal. After police stopped Shope they discovered a pill bottle filled with numerous pseudo pills. Shope gave police permission to search his home in the 5300 block of Devers Ave. When police arrived there they found 31-year-old Sara J. Wallace, who also consented to the search.
Once inside the home officers discovered numerous items commonly used to manufacture methamphetamines including Coleman fuel, salt, a one pot reactionary vessel and other items. Police also discovered two children in the home ranging from five to six years of age.
Meth was also found in the kitchen and living room of the home. The Metro Health Department responded and testing of the home's walls was positive for the presence of methamphetamines.
Both Wallace and Shope now face charges of manufacturing meth and endangering the welfare of minor with a controlled substance.
Wallace and Shope were arraigned on Thursday morning. Wallace was released on her own recognizance with an order to have no unsupervised contact with the children. Shope remains behind bars on a $1,000 bond.
Both are expected back in court March 12 for a preliminary hearing.
