CPSO makes arrests in home & vehicle burglaries

The following is a Press Release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office:

On January 9, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to a home on Fernwood Drive in Lake Charles regarding a home burglary.  The victim reported her purse, which contained her debit card, checkbook, and prescription medication, was stolen from inside her home while she slept.   After realizing her purse had been stolen, the victim contacted her bank and discovered $1,000 worth of charges had been made at several local stores.

Detectives were able to identify Andrew C. Bertrand, 22, and Jordan M. Hesse, 17, both of Moss Bluff, on surveillance footage from two of the stores where the debit card was used.

On February 15, Bertrand was arrested by detectives during a traffic stop during which detectives discovered several small plastic bags of methamphetamines, marijuana, and a glass smoking device inside his car.  Detectives also recovered numerous items consistent with creating a mobile clandestine lab from inside Bertrand's car.  Kenneth P. Petty, 24, of Ragley, who was a passenger in Bertrand's car, was also arrested. Both were booked into Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with possession of marijuana; prohibited acts schedule II; and drug paraphernalia.  Bertrand was also charged with burglary; theft $500--$1,500; unauthorized use of access card over $500, in connection with the Fernwood Drive burglary.

On February 15, during an interview with Hesse regarding the home burglary on Fernwood Drive, detectives discovered she was in possession of CDS IV (Xanax), marijuana, and drug paraphernalia inside her vehicle which was parked near an area high school.  She was booked into CCC and charged with possession of marijuana; possession of CDS IV; possession of CDS in a drug-free zone; and drug paraphernalia.

During the investigation, detectives also arrested, Devin L. Bertrand, 20, of Moss Bluff, in connection with the burglary.  He was booked in CCC and charged with burglary; theft $500--$1,500; and 2 counts of unauthorized use of an access card.

After further investigation, detectives discovered a second home burglary occurred on January 8 on Alder Street in Lake Charles.  The victim, who is a family member of Devin Bertrand, reported someone entered his house after breaking the lock to his back door and stole a laptop and over $800 worth of jewelry.

Devin Bertrand and Andrew Bertrand, who were already incarcerated at the Calcasieu Correctional Center, were charged burglary; and theft $500--$1,500, in connection with the burglary on Alder Street.

Detectives also identified Devin Bertrand and Corey G. Kallenbach, 22, of Moss Bluff, as suspects in two additional vehicle burglaries on Camp Fire Road in Moss Bluff on January 25.  Both are charged with 2 counts of simple burglary; and theft under $500.

The stolen laptop and several electronic items purchased with the stolen debit card were recovered by detectives at a local pawn shop and returned to the owners.

CPSO Detective Sconnie Granger is the lead investigator on this case.

Rain coming to an end this afternoonRain coming to an end this afternoon

So far today, we have seen some very heavy rainfall. There were also a few storms. A few places saw some localized street flooding. All of this rain, is slowly moving away. By this evening, we should not be dealing with any rain. As the train moves away, the clouds will lighten up. Then the temperatures should go back up. Highs should top out in the mid to upper 80s. Overnight, some of the clouds will clear away. It should be a dry forecast overnight, with no rain expected.
