BATON ROUGE, LA (KPLC)- For the second straight day, McNeese State's softball team picked up a split on the final day of the LSU Invitational here Sunday with a 3-0 loss to South Alabama then another five inning victory over Alcorn State, this time by a 11-0 score. The Cowgirls end the tournament with a 2-2 record and improve to 11-6 overall.
McNeese once again bounced back from first game loss earlier in the day to South Alabama to defeat Alcorn State. McNeese scored 11 runs on 12 hits to defeat the Braves in five innings.
Kelsey Jolly and Laura Neil led the Cowgirls' 12 hit attack with two hits apiece. Dani Price led the Cowgirls with three RBI's while Kim Kennedy scored three runs. Freshman Bianca Lilly picked up her first collegiate win after giving up one hit in two innings and struck out three.
The Cowgirls scored six runs in the first on four hits and three Alcorn State errors. McNeese added two more runs in the second then three in the third to pick up the win.
In the loss to South Alabama, the Jaguars scored all three runs in the third on four hits. Three doubles in the inning aided the Jaguars to push their three runs across the plate
McNeese picked up four hits in the game with Claire Terracina collecting two of them. Kim Kennedy picked up single as did Dani Price.
Meagan Bond took the loss for the Cowgirls, falling to 7-4 on the year. Bond gave up five hits in 6.0 innings while striking out four.
The Cowgirls will travel to Jacksonville, Florida to face Delaware State and St. Bonaventure on Friday, March 2 at 10:45 a.m. and 1 p.m. The Cowgirls as well as Delaware State and St. Bonaventure will remain in Florida to take part in the North Florida Osprey Invitational Saturday and Sunday.
