BATON ROUGE, LA (KPLC)-McNeese State's softball team posted a 1-1 record here Saturday on the first day of the LSU Tiger Invitational. The Cowgirls fell 2-0 to LSU then bounced back with a 8-0 five inning win over Alcorn State.
McNeese missed a good chance to score the first run of the game when Claire Terracina led the game off with a triple. Terracina was left stranded on third and the Cowgirls walked away empty handed. The hit was the only hit in the game for the Cowgirls. Meagan Bond suffered the loss by giving up six hits and three strikeouts.
LSU's Morgan Russell provided all the offense for the Tigers with a RBI single in the fourth and a solo home run in the sixth.
In the Cowgirls' finald game of the day, McNeese scored six runs in the first inning then added single runs in the second and fourth. A RBI double by Stacy Conley scored Claire Terracina for a 1-0 Cowgirl lead. Freshman Ashley Modaelewski extended the Cowgirl lead to 5-0 on a grand slam. The long ball is her first career home run. The Cowgirls' other run came on a RBI single by Megan Knippa that scored pinch runner Courtney Hebert.
Kim Kennedy led the second inning off with her second home run of the season, a solo home run to give McNeese a 7-0 lead then a double by Modzelewski in the fourth scored MyKeisha Young for the eight Cowgirl run of the inning.
Conley and Modzelewski both led the Cowgirls with two hits apiece and Modzelewski had five RBI's in the game. Tiffany Denham picked up the win by throwing a one-hitter in three innings pitched with three strikeouts. Bianca Lilly came in to pitch the final two innings and struck out three.
