Rising river causing headaches for motorists in Calcasieu Parish - KPLC 7 News, Lake Charles, Louisiana

Rising river causing headaches for some motorists in Calcasieu Parish

With recent heavy rains in southwest Louisiana, some area lakes, rivers, and bayous have reached levels exceeding their maximum capacity.

Those affected by the floodwaters in Calcasieu Parish include residents along Goos Ferry Rd. where the Calcasieu River at Old Town Bay rose to 6.0 ft. early Tuesday morning.  That put the river at 2 ft. above flood stage.

Yesterday, water had already covered the roads making driving difficult, if not impassable, for smaller vehicles.

With another 6 inch rise in the river this morning, those that traveled along Goos Ferry Rd. were faced with an even bigger dilemma.

Forecasts are for the river to rise to as high as 6.5 ft. by Wednesday.

A link to the latest river level at Old Town Bay has been included in this story providing the most up-to-date information on the current stage of the Calcasieu.
