HOUSTON, TX (KPLC)-Houston Baptist came back on McNeese State's Cowboys with a 4-3 victory here Sunday afternoon.
The Huskies scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to come from behind and take the win. McNeese had won the Friday-Saturday suspended game by an 8-7 score leaving both teams at 1-1.
The Cowboys return to action Wednesday afternoon in Baton Rouge against LSU, first pitch to be at 3 p.m.
Sunday's game had rocked along for seven innings in a 1-1 deadlock. The Cowboys had scored a run in the third when shortstop Tyler Klouser led off the frame with a double to rightfield. He was singled to third by Andrew Guillotte and then scored when Guillotte was tossed out trying to steal second.
The Huskies got a run in the bottom of the sixth inning on two hits and a Cowboy error.
Trey Brown, who had started the contest on the mound for the Cowboys, bowed out in the sixth with the score tied. He hurled 5.2 innings, giving up five hits and an unearned run while walking four and striking out two.
Tyler Parke came on to finish the game and eventually took the loss. McNeese scored two runs in the top of the eighth on three doubles and appeared to be in control.
In that inning, Renny Weber led off with a double and he was plated by Seth Granger with another double. After two were out, Nick Eubanks doubled Granger home but then Kevin Santana struckout with two on base.
The Huskies got the victory in the bottom of the ninth when after one was out, Collin Hetzler walked and Kolby Arnst was hit by a pitch. A double by Jake Gonzalez plated Hertzler and after Judson Bartlett was intentionally walked, Brady Brown doubled in the tying and winning runs.
Parke, now 0-1 on the season, hurled 2.2 innings giving up four hits and three earned runs. McNeese had 11 hits in the game and leading the way was Granger with three hits and a RBI. Weber had two hits as did Skylar Barrentine.
