The following is a press release from the Louisiana State Police:
Calcasieu Parish--One lane of Interstate 210 eastbound (milepost 5) between Nelson Road and Lake Street in Lake Charles is currently closed due to emergency road repairs being made by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to the Contraband Bayou Bridge. Currently, only one eastbound lane is open. In addition, only one lane of the Interstate 10 Calcasieu River Bridge (milepost 29) is open in each direction due to an ongoing bridge maintenance project. Eastbound traffic is currently down to only one lane each on Interstate 10 and Interstate 210.
These lane closures are causing significant delays. The congestion on I-210 eastbound is extending onto eastbound Interstate 10 prior to the I-210 exit during much of the day and evening, sometimes extending for several miles. Interstate 210 serves as a loop around Lake Charles.
Motorists traveling east on I-10 into Louisiana from Texas can expect delays and should look for stopped traffic as they approach Lake Charles from the west. Louisiana Highway 12, north of I-10, is available as an alternate route.
Motorists are urged to allow extra time to get to their destination. The emergency repairs on Interstate 210 are expected to continue for several days.
