McNeese may study need for new jail in Jeff Davis

JENNINGS, LA (AP) -

McNeese State University will be asked to lead a study that would determine whether a new jail is needed in Jefferson Davis Parish.

The study would include projected construction costs as well as the impact of overcrowding and operational expenses at the existing jail. Inmate health care and medical costs also will be examined, according to Police Jury President Donald Woods.

Police Juror Steve Eastman said the study will allow the parish to consider all options for a new jail.
