State legislators ask for City's support for Moss Regional

State legislators ask City of LC for help with Moss Regional cuts

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Two state legislators are asking the Lake Charles City Council to get involved to help stop cuts coming to Moss Regional Hospital.

State Representative A.B. Franklin and Senator Ronnie Johns wants the council to support a resolution asking the LSU Health Sciences Division and the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospital reconsider the cuts to Moss Regional's psychiatric unit and pediatrics. Franklin and Johns said the hospital has been paralyzed enough.

"What would happen to this hospital? What would happen if you are going to privatize the psychiatric ward and in six months they decide they don't want a contract no more. Would would happen? Probably fall right back on us again," said Rep. Franklin, (D) District 34.

"Not only just Rep. Franklin and myself but our entire delegation - we've got great concerns about the future of indigent care in Southwest Louisiana," said Johns, (R) District 27.

The council will discuss the issue in more depth at its regular meeting on February 15th and vote whether or not to support the resolution.
