Horace Trahan named 2011 Cajun Radio Artist of the Year

The 2011 Cajun Radio Artist of the Year Award was handed out to Horace Trahan on Friday, January 20th at a private concert in the Cajun Radio Studios.

Trahan is a world renowned Cajun and Zydeco artist who makes music on the side, and has been playing the accordion since he was 15-years-old.

The Louisiana native says his inspiration comes from his cousin, who taught him how to play the accordion.

"Since I was small I loved music. My parents had that 45 record of Splish Splash I was taking a bath. So I got me a guitar when I was 12, and I picked up the accordion at 15. I always loved music, and singing," Trahan said.

Trahan was nominated by listeners in a poll by Cajun Radio. He won the Cajun Radio 2011 "Artist of the Year" award with over 51 percent of the vote.
