The following is a Press Release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office:

On January 13 around 11:00 p.m., Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched in reference to a possible burglary in progress at Lake Area Marine on Highway 90 East in Lake Charles.

The caller advised two men, later identified as David J. Mouton, 45, and Joseph N. Trahan, 50, both of Lake Charles, were inside the fenced in area of the business, which was closed for the day.

When deputies arrived, they located Mouton and Trahan hiding underneath a boat in the fenced in area of the business.  During further investigation, deputies discovered the fence of the business was damaged.  Deputies also recovered several burglary tools, including wrenches and screwdriver, which were used to gain access.

When questioned by detectives, Mouton confirmed they entered the fenced in area to steal a boat motor. Both Mouton and Trahan were arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with simple burglary; attempted theft over $1,500; simple criminal damage to property; and illegal carrying of weapons (burglary tools).

Judge Clayton Davis set their bonds at $15,000 each.

CPSO Detectives David Doucette and John Casarez are investigators on this case.
