LAKE CHARLES – McNeese State placed four players in double figures in a 61-47 Southland Conference basketball victory over Southeastern Louisiana here Wednesday.
Patrick Richard, the league's scoring leader, led the Cowboys with 17 points – his scoring average – while Jeremie Mitchell tossed in 14, Dontae Cannon posted 12 and Rudy Turner 11.
Jeremy Campbell led Southeastern with 11 points and Daron Populist had 10.
The victory lifted McNeese's record to 3-1 in league play and to 7-9 overall while the Lions fell to 1-3 in the conerence and to 7-9 overall.
McNeese led throughout the game, dominating at times. The Cowboys went out by as many as 21 points in the first half.
"This was a good win for us," Cowboy head coach Dave Simmons said. "I think that this is our first win over them in about four games. We had some good, balanced scoring and even though we had a bad five minutes of the second half, we came back and got our momentum going again."
All four starters scored in double figures for the Cowboys while the fifth – Daniel Richard – was one of the game's rebound leaders with seven and he also had two blocked shots.
Next up for the Cowboys is Northwestern State which McNeese will host in a doubleheader on Saturday.
