Sulphur man, 51, dies in fiery 1-vehicle crash

A Sulphur man died early Tuesday evening in a fiery crash in West Baton Rouge Parish.

Rescuers were unable to pull John "Joey" Tarasiewicz, 51, from his vehicle on I-10 eastbound before it burst into flames, Louisiana State Troop A officers say.

There were no passengers in the truck. Alcohol is not suspected to have been a factor.

Troopers'  preliminary  investigation  revealed Tarasiewicz was driving  a  pickup in the left lane when he ran off the roadway to the left.

As the pickup entered the median, Tarasiewicz attempted to steer back onto the roadway, the investigation shows, and  he lost  control.  The pickup began to rotate clockwise  through  the median and then struck a concrete drainage culvert.  Tarasiewicz was pronounced dead at the scene

A sample of Tarasiewicz's  blood  was submitted  to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis.  It is unknown why the pickup ran off the roadway.

The investigation continues.
