Lafayette man investigated, victims encouraged to come forward

The following is a Press Release from the Louisiana State Police:

During the last two weeks, Louisiana State Police detectives have been working with the Kaplan Police Department, Lafayette Police Department, St. Landry Sheriff's Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation to identify potential victims of 22-year-old Eric Manuel of Lafayette.

After Manuel was arrested by the Kaplan Police Department, State Police detectives began investigating the circumstances surrounding how Manuel was making contact with his victims.  After obtaining a search warrant for Manuel's residence, detectives seized various multimedia devices and began searching through thousands of images depicting child pornography.

While reviewing the images, detectives were able to identify numerous victims in the Acadiana area and around the state.  Through the investigation, detectives learned that Manuel was using the alias of a 14-year-old girl he named Emily Brant via social media networks.  Using this fictitious name, Manuel was able to engage victims in the sending and receiving of inappropriate images.

Anyone who has had contact with Manuel or his persona Emily Brant and feels like they may be a victim, is urged to contact State Police detectives at 337-262-3341.  Any victims in this case who were involved in inappropriate actions with Manuel will be considered a victim with their identities protected.
