Dangerously cold temperatures overnight

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

Bitterly cold temperatures are on the way tonight for all of southwest Louisiana.

In preparation for the looming arctic blast, the National Weather Service has issued a Hard Freeze Warning for all of south and central Louisiana with the exception of the coastal parishes.

Most every location in the KPLC viewing area will be at or below freezing by midnight tonight with temperatures in the low to mid 20s by sunrise.

Due to the fact we will be seeing freezing temperatures for several hours tonight, make sure to protect exterior water pipes from the cold, and bring plants and pets indoors if possible.

Also, if your home is heated by electric space heaters please use extreme caution, and never sleep with space heaters in operation.
