State Police respond to fatal crash south of Moss Bluff

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to fatal crash on Highway 171 just south of Moss Bluff at around 9:30 p.m. Two pickup trucks were involved near the intersection of Old Town Road.

According to Sgt. James Anderson preliminary investigation reveals that one of the vehicles was heading north on Hwy 171 with no headlights. Anderson said a southbound vehicle turned left and collided with the vehicle with no headlights.

The driver of one of the vehicles died of injuries sustained in the crash while the other received only minor injuries. None of the victims have been identified pending notification of family members.

The Lake Charles Fire Department, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office and Acadian Ambulance were also on the scene.

This is the second fatal crash State Police Troop D worked Monday. Anderson said troopers also responded to Hwy 27 north of Sulphur about 2 miles from Hwy 379 around 4:30 p.m.

According to troopers one of the vehicles involved crossed the center line and collided with another vehicle.

The driver who died was not wearing a seat belt. Another passenger was ejected and taken to the hospital for moderate injuries. The second driver was wearing a seat belt and was not seriously injured. No names have been released in this accident either.
