Officials prep for Black Bayou bridge closure

The following is a press release from the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury:

In anticipation of the closing of Black Bayou pontoon bridge on State Highway 384, by the State Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) beginning January 16th, a meeting of public safety officials was held at the Calcasieu Parish EOC earlier this week. Attendees included President of the Police Jury Guy Brame, representatives of Calcasieu and Cameron Parish Sheriff's Office, Grand Lake and Lake Charles Fire Departments, Calcasieu and Cameron parish OHSEP, Cameron Parish Ambulance District Number 2, and Acadian Ambulance.

The bridge will be dry-docked, and will be out of service to the public for several weeks. During this time agencies will coordinate efforts collectively when responding to any emergencies that may occur in the area.

DOTD has advised motorists to take the Grand Lake Pontoon Bridge to and from the area while the bridge is closed.
