Family members plead guilty of gov't funds theft

Alberta Murphy, 59, her son, Learrick Murphy, 33, and her daughter, Thelma Murphy pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court in Lafayette, for theft of government funds.

Murphy along with her son and daughter forged the signature of their decease uncle's Retirement and Security Income after 2001 and cashed the checks.

Alberta cashed $22,537.00, Learrick cashed $22,478,00 and Thelma cashed 2,183.00.

Each inmate faces up to ten years, a fine up to $250,000.00 or both and a supervised released up to three years.
