AAA "Tipsy Tow" goes viral, but not available everywhere

(KSLA) - A helpful tip about free rides and tows from AAA for New Years Eve revelers has gone viral, but beware: it's not available everywhere.

It's been making the rounds on Facebook:

No excuses-Don't drink and drive - Tipsy Tow offered by AAA to folks across the country:
You DON'T have to be a AAA member, from 6pm-6am on New Year's Eve/Day, they will take your drunk self and your car home for FREE.
Save this number... 1-800-222-4357 .
Please re-post this if you don't mind...

Some versions detail a three to five mile tow for drinking drivers and their vehicles.

While not a nationwide program, a number of AAA clubs do offer Tow-to-Go or Tipsy Tow service during certain holidays for members and nonmembers.

According to their web site, AAA Auto Club South has teamed up with Budweiser for the "Tow to Go" program, which claims to have safely removed more than 13,600 drunk drivers from the roads since its inception in 1998. If you live in Florida, Georgia or Middle & Western Tennessee, you're good to go for a "Tow to Go" if you should find yourself in need.

Other AAA clubs around the country may offer similar programs, but none are available in the ArkLaTex. Click here for a list of those programs offered by regional AAA clubs. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has created a list of sober/safe ride programs across the country.  Search for programs in your area here.

Your best bet: pick a designated driver before heading out on New Year's Eve.
