Two major stores to shut some doors

CALCASIEU PARISH, LA (KPLC) -

As one of the biggest shopping times of the year wraps up, customers may be surprised to know that two major retailers are closing down locations.

The unemployment rate may increase to start the New Year as two major stores are shutting down locations.

Over 100 Sears and Kmart stores will soon be closing their doors. That's according to Sears, owner of both retailers.

The CEO says the company is trying to reduce expenses after disappointing sales for big-ticket items this year.

Several sears and Kmart locations are in the area.

But there's good news for area shoppers. Louis Fajardo, general manager at the Lake Charles Kmart location, says his store is not one of the closing locations.

The sears locations closing down have not been released.

The news of the closures came as a shock to Sears general manager Leroy Tademy at the West Prien Lake location.

He had no information as to whether or not his location would be closing.

When asked about his particular store, Sears general manager Tademy had no idea that Kmart and Sears locations nationwide were even closing.

Rain chances increasing the next few daysRain chances increasing the next few days

Tonight, skies will be cloudy but we will have a very little chance for rain. It will be slightly warmer overnight. Winds are still blowing out of the south, and that has slightly increased our humidity, and will therefore prevent temperatures from falling tonight. Most of Southwest Louisiana will cool down to the mid 40s, while a couple places may reach the upper 30s. Early Friday morning could have a few light showers near the coast. There is a 20% chance we see some rain.
