Eunice, Louisiana - On Christmas Eve, Hank Cartwright was the victim in a single car crash on Interstate 10 near milepost 74. Louisiana State Trooper Trent Hawks and Acadia Parish Sheriff's Deputy Mike Boddye pulled Cartwright from the vehicle just before the car had burst into flames.
According to the press release:
"When Trooper Hanks arrived at the crash, he and Deputy Mike Boddye with the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office approached a 2011 Hyundai which had crashed into several trees south of the interstate. Trooper Hanks and Deputy Boddye noticed the driver, 25-year-old Hunter Cartwright of Eunice, LA, behind the wheel of the vehicle was incoherent. In attempt to render aid, to Cartwright Trooper Hanks broke the windows of the vehicle, and he and Deputy Boddye began to remove the man from the vehicle. As they were attempting to remove him from the vehicle it caught fire. Trooper Hanks and Deputy Boddye were able to rescue the man just before it was fully engulfed in flames."
Cartwright was transported to a local area hospital with moderate injuries. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
