Millennium Park open, just in time for holidays

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

Mayor Randy Roach and Santa officially kicked off the opening of Millennium Park on Bord du Lac Drive in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Children got to visit with Santa Claus before bolting into the park with new friends.  Phase 1 of the park has been completed.

Kay Barnett, Chair of the Rebuilding Millennium Park Committee, says, "For Phase 2, we're going to have a big pavilion, benches, place where we'll have restrooms. There will be a fossil beach, a spray park and a concession area".

Barnett says people visiting the park will have the convenience of a self-contained play area. She also says that parents need not worry losing their children as there will only be one way in and out.

Phase 2 is set to break ground in early Spring and be completed by Summer 2012.

As of now, Millennium Park will be open daily from 9am - 5pm.

But on Christmas Day 2011, the park will be CLOSED.

A formal grand opening of the park will be scheduled for later in the Spring 2012.
