Louisiana will receive money for education reform efforts

Louisiana will receive $17.4 million for its ongoing education reform efforts. The Federal Education Department awarded Louisiana with "Race to the Top" dollars to improve K-12 Education Programs.

Louisiana was a runner up in a competition for the funds last year. This year, the state has made changes to education like improving principal and teacher evaluation systems and turning around under-performing schools.

Along with Louisiana, the six other states that won third-round Race to the Top funds are Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Kentucky, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
