Curtis Fountain wins Cameron tie breaker, Police Juror Dist 1

Curtis Fountain wins, Cameron Parish Police Juror District 1

CAMERON PARISH, LA (KPLC) - UPDATE: As of Saturday, December 17, 2011, Curtis Fountain won the Cameron Parish Police Juror District 1 race. Fountain beats incumbent Sonny McGee, 224 to 195.

Fountain says he was originally worried about the tie breaking election due to the holidays and also redistricting. Fountain says, "We [incumbent Sonny McGee] ran in this new district that is really three districts that are now wrapped up into this one". Fountain was worried that the residents of this new district wouldn't be receptive to him but he says he plans on working hard to gain their trust.

Fountain will be sworn in to his new role in January 2012.

Fountain lives in Hackberry while incumbent Sonny McGee lives in Johnson's Bayou.

Election season may be over for most of the country for now, but it's still campaign time in one part of Cameron Parish.  In November, candidates in the runoff race for Cameron Parish Police Jury District 1 thought they'd know the winner when the votes were tabulated November 19th.  It turns out, both Sonny McGee and Curtis Fountain each received 178 votes.

After a recount and a review of the vote tabulation machines, election officials determined a tie breaking election would be held Saturday, December 17th.

District 1 covers the Holly Beach, Johnson's Bayou and East Hackberry.
