The following is a Press Release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office:

On November 30th at approximately 8:00 p.m., Combined Anti-Drug Task Force (C.A.T. Team) Detective Sgt. Stuart Henderson conducted a stop on a car near mile marker 11 traveling east on I-10 for a traffic violation.  The driver of the car, Walter Banks, III, 28, of Baton Rouge, told the detective he was traveling back to Baton Rouge from Houston.

When Sgt. Henderson approached the car and spoke with Banks, he detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car.  During a search of the car, the Sgt. Henderson recovered approximately 45 pounds of marijuana wrapped in clear plastic cellophane located in the passenger area of the car, with an estimated street value of over $100,000.

Banks was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

Judge Ron Ware set his bond at $60,000.
