The Calcasieu Medical Reserve Corps and the Southwest Louisiana Chapter of the American Red cross are joining forces in a partnership they believe will help the community be better prepared in a disaster.
Both groups use volunteers and play a vital role in disaster relief. They plan to share various resources including people and facilities.
The Reserve Corp has worked to build a team of healthcare professionals who will activate to help provide medical response during a man-made or natural disaster and address community needs on a daily basis.
Reserve Corp Director Angela Jouett says it's a win win situation for the community.
Officials say the American Red Cross is changing, in part, to bring local chapters back to the main mission which is to shelter, feed and provide emotional support to victims of disasters.
