51st Annual Area-Wide Baptist Youth Week, planning begins

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

The 51st Annual Area-Wide Baptist Youth Week is in its beginning stages. The kickoff took place at True Light Missionary Baptist Church on Highway 14 in Lake Charles, La.

The Annual Area-Wide Baptist Youth Week movement started 50 years ago by the late Dr. Victor E. Washington. Washington brought his vision to the Baptist Ministers Union. He envisioned bringing young people throughout Lake Charles and surrounding areas together. Washington had plans on sitting down with youth and discussing the relevant issues of the day.

"Our kids today are facing many issues, they are facing cyber bullying and suicide. There is dysfunction in their families. And then our communities are not as safe as they ought to be. Our children have to deal with issues on a daily basis", says Reverend Timothy Ceasar. Reverend Ceasar is the Baptist Ministers Union President.

As of now, the planning sessions for youth week will take place over the next few Sundays at various area churches. The Youth Week is set to begin on January 29, 2012.

December 4th - Planning Session #1 - Good Hope Baptist Church (Westlake)

December 11th - Planning Session #2 - Messiah Baptist Church (Lake Charles)

December 18th - Planning Session #3 - New Covenant Baptist Church (Lake Charles)

January 8th - Planning Session #4 - Starlight Baptist Church (Lake Charles)

January 22nd - Planning Session #5 - Evergreen Baptist Church (Lake Charles)

Tonight, it should be another nice, yet warm evening. Any clouds we see today will clear away around sunset, and the rain chances go back to zero tonight. The temperatures will be fairly warm. They should not cool out of the 70s in most places. Especially near the coastline. North of I-10 has a chance to too the upper 60s, but it will still be warm. This will start off with more hot and humid conditions. There will likely be plenty of clouds every now and then.
