Smith wins State Senate District 30 race

BATON ROUGE, LA (KPLC) -

John Smith defeated James David Cain Saturday night in the run off for State Senate District 30.  Smith received 8,457 votes.  Cain 5,772 votes.

    Church of Christ Disaster Relief was in Lake Charles Tuesday to donate furniture to residents who were impacted by Hurricane Harvey.  Fantacee Brown, the community outreach coordinator of the program, says she sprang into action right after Harvey hit by donating food, supplies, and other necessities.     A new bookstore opened at SOWELA Technical Community College Tuesday.  The grand opening was part of the college's Students Appreciation and Spirit Day.
