LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Fourth graders at Oak Park Elementary are building a city out of boxes.
Box City all part of a class project paired with the City of Lake Charles Planning Department to help students learn about how communities are planned and built.
Students created their own box buildings and learned about occupancy permits, role playing name tags and other building assignments. Box City allows participants to think about their own city and what it could be.
Mayor Randy Roach made a guest appearance to the 4th graders to teach them about infrastructure and how the city of Lake Charles was built.
"This workshop is a great starting point for elementary students to become acquainted, in a fun and interactive way, with how municipal planning works," Mayor Randy Roach said.
