The following is a news release from the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office:
The Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office is confirming the discovery of skeletal remains in a wooded area off Zaunbrecher Road west of the city limits of Rayne.
According to Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon, the Rayne Police Department received a call around 10:30 a.m. from two squirrel hunters that reported the discovery.
Investigators from the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office, Rayne Police Department and Acadia Parish Coroner's Office responded to the scene and were able to recover the human remains. Melancon advised that the recovered remains will be sent to L.S.U. where Dr. Mary Manhein, Forensic Anthropologist will determine race, sex, age, method of death.
