VINTON, LA (KPLC) -
Three people were killed early Saturday morning when their vehicle went out of control and crashed into a tree near the Big Woods community.
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's spokeswoman Kim Myers said the accident happened around 5 a.m. in the 1900 block of Big Woods Edgerly Road.
Witnesses told KPLC 7 News the vehicle was engulfed in flames when first responders arrived. Myers said Saturday the truck crossed the center line and ran off the road, hit a tree and caught fire. It wasn't clear what caused the vehicle to leave the road.
Three people, who were still in the truck when deputies arrived, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Shannon T. Barks, 18, of Starks, was identified as the lone survivor. Myers said Barks was able to get out of the truck. Barks was taken to a hospital for treatment. CPSO said Saturday afternoon Barks was listed in critical condition.
Investigators were still working Saturday to determine their identities. Their names weren't expected to be released until positive identification has been made.
Myers said the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
