Lafayette Police issue warrant for suspect in shooting

The following is a news release from the Lafayette Police Department:

UPDATE: Victim's Name Release in Fatal Shooting
Detectives with the Lafayette Police Department have identified the victim in Thursday's Shooting.  The victim is identified as Joshua D. Augustine (32) of Lafayette.  The case remains under investigation.

UPDATE: Warrant Issued for Suspect in Shooting

Lafayette Police have issued arrest warrants for 1 count of 1st Degree Murder and 1 count of Attempted 1st Degree Murder for the arrest of Maurice Goodman (24) of San Antonio, Texas.  Goodman is allegedly responsible for the death of one victim and injuring a second during a disturbance early this morning. Goodman was last seen fleeing the scene in a mid 1990's silver or gold Buick Roadmaster with a Texas license plate.  Detectives now believe the disturbance between the two groups of men was an ongoing feud. 

Detective did arrest a Jarvis Breaux (27) of Lafayette and charge him with 2nd Degree Battery.  Allegedly Breaux, who was accompanying Goodman, struck a third victim multiple times causing moderate injury during the disturbance.  Breaux was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.

Detectives are asking anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Maurice Goodman to contact the Lafayette Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.

Police Investigate Overnight Homicide

On November 3, 2011, at approximately 12:30 am, Lafayette Police responded to the 600 block of Magnolia Street regarding a shooting incident.  When officers arrived they discovered 2 male victims lying in the yard of a residence, each suffering from a single gunshot wound.  Both victims were transported to an area hospital for their injuries.  One of the victim's, a 32 year old male, died at the hospital as a result of the injury.  The second victim, a 28 year old male, remains hospitalized in stable condition. 

According to witnesses, a disturbance erupted between 6 to 8 males, at which time one of the suspects produce a gun and began firing.  The suspects fled the area immediately following the shooting.  The cause of the disturbance remains under investigation.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about the incident or the identity of the suspects to call the Lafayette Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.

    Organizers with the USS Orleck Naval Museum are hosting "Christmas Cuts for Veterans" this year.  Local veterans can get a free haircut aboard the USS Orleck from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 18.
