Phase one of River Bluff Park gets budget approval

River Bluff Park Phase One Budget

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Proposed developments for River Bluff Park in Moss Bluff gets approval through the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury for phase one to begin with a budget of $2.8-million.

Parish Administrator Bryan Beam said he and the CPPJ are "deeply involved" in the River Bluff project. Beam said a conceptual plan for the park was presented along with the three different phases in which the park will be built.

Phase one is to improve the already existing boat launch, reconstruct the main entry road, improve the boat ramp and pier structure. Phase two consists of building a playground and infrastructure. Phase three will be the building of a nature center, boardwalks, trails and landscaping.

"We feel very good about this whole River Bluff Park and the process," Beam said.

It was addressed at the CPPJ meeting the boat launch was the most critical item on the list of renovations, given it being phase one of the project.

"It became very clear that the boat launch and upgrading it, which is badly needed, was the highest priority," Beam said.

Phase one will take between six to nine months to complete and will not begin until 2012. The $2.8-million budget for phase one will be added to CPPJ's 2012 budget.

"Whatever the funds are spent at this park, we have to be very deliberate about that," Beam said.

Beam said at each phase the police jury will determine how much funding will go toward each phase.
