McNeese Rodeo supporting scholarship funds and breast cancer

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - McNeese State University's rodeo team held its annual rodeo at the Burton Coliseum on Friday, October 28 and part of the rodeo proceeds went to rodeo scholarship funding and Christus St. Patrick's breast cancer survivor group.

McNeese Rodeo Coach Justin Browning said the money brought in to the scholarship fund really helps out the rodeo students.

"It gives them a goal for the high school rodeo athletes who strive to go to college to get a scholarship and to pay for their school. A lot of these students put in their life to rodeo. It's in their blood," Browning said.

More than 50 students from McNeese work close to 40 hours a week perfecting their rodeo skills like bull riding and calf roping, to name a few.

"They work their tails off in all the rodeos and everything and you get to see all that hard work come out," Browning said.

The rodeo continues on Saturday at Burton Coliseum.
