8th Annual Ethel Precht Breast Cancer Walk

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

For the 8th year the Ethel Precht HOPE Breast Cancer Foundation has is tying breast cancer survivors together. More than 2,000 people came out Saturday morning for the annual walk. Precht is a 25 year breast cancer survivor and said she never thought the walk would get this big. A tearful Precht said she is overwhelmed by its continued success.

"I thought I would start it and maybe 100 or 200 people would show up. I never imagined it would be like this and so well received. Sorry if I'm tearing up I just get so emotional to see all these people out here support breast cancer. It just gets to me," said Precht.

Precht said they had their largest pre-register since the walk started with 1,700. All the proceeds raised at the walk go to help local breast cancer survivors.

"If it can help one person with anything... even if it's just to put a smile on their face we'll do it. We're glad we can continue to do that with the support of the community. We thank them so much," said Precht.

One local fraternity made sure some families in Southwest Louisiana had a fully cooked meal to enjoy for Christmas. "We have turkeys and hams, but it's enough food in the box to feed a family of eight," said  Mark Gallashaw, president of Kappa Alpha Psi's Lake Charles Alumni Chapter. Thirty-five boxes of cooked meals are getting ready to be delivered to families across Southwest Louisiana.
