Suspect Arrested in Disturbance

The following is a Press Release from the Lafayette Police Department:

On October 6, 2011, at approximately 9:45 pm, Officers with the Lafayette Police Department responded to the 300 block of 7th Street regarding a disturbance.  According to the victim, a verbal altercation erupted between three people at which time the suspect allegedly armed himself with a 2X4 board.  The suspect struck the first victim, a 43-year-old female of Lafayette, multiple times, causing her to suffer lacerations to the head.  The second victim, a 40-year-old male of Lafayette, suffered lacerations to his hands and back. Officer located the suspect a short time later hiding in the bushes near the scene.

The suspect, Larry Meche, 60, of Lafayette, was arrested and charged with Attempted First Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery and Simple Battery.  The victims were both transported to an area hospital and treated for their injuries.  The case remains under investigation.
