LCPD Involved in Late Night Shooting

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - A man accused of killing a woman is hospitalized after being shot by Lake Charles Police Officers.

Investigators say around 10 p.m. Thursday night, the suspect shot and killed a woman on General Patton Street. Her name has not been released. They believe after he killed her, he traveled to Tulip Street and began firing his gun there.

When officers arrived at Tulip Street, they say they approached the suspect and gave him verbal commands that he ignored. That's when they opened fire.

Deputy Chief Mark Kraus says the man was taken to an area hospital to be treated for several gun shot wounds, and a self inflicted knife wound. They believe the knife wound is the more serious injury. He describes the suspect's status as critical.

A separate investigation will be handled by State Police to look into the officer involved shooting.
