Suspect dies on tracks

The following is a Press Release from the Newton Co. Sheriff's Office:

Sunday 25th 2011; shortly after 10:30 Kansas City southern railroad called NCSO dispatch and reported a portion of human remains on the Hartburg track just East of TX 87 overpass. The remains were that of Dallen Elmore 20 of Deweyville.

Investigators from NCSO and Orange Co. responded to find remains scattered over about 250 feet of track.

Previously in the early morning hours Deputies were in the area looking for a suspect that attempted a break in that occurred within a half mile of the fatality.  It was then discovered the victim in the train accident was the actor in the attempted break in.

Clothing description plus the would be victim of the attempted break in knowing the subject assisted in identification.  Orange Co. also assisted in positive Identification by tattoo's from in house jail records as well as NCSO investigators making facial confirmation.

It appears the victim was walking the track from the direction of the attempted break in to the home where he was currently living when struck by a previously passing train some time in the time frame of 5 a.m., and found by the 10:30 train.  It is unknown at the time about alcohol or other substances however the remains were sent to Jefferson County Morgue to be examined and toxicology performed.

    A house on Tank Farm Road was fired upon twice over the weekend, authorities with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
