LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - More vendors are staking out along the lakeshore promenade now that the vendor program allows small businesses to sell their goods with ease.
The vendor program allows businesses to lease a spot of land along the promenade and providing them with water and electricity.
It was brought to the Lake Charles City Council by Downtown Development and approved for vendors to do this.
Vendor Roger Roy gives carriage rides to downtown visitors and he also sells snowballs. He retired in June and started his small business near the lake. He said the downtown area was a perfect venue for small business.
"It's something I always wanted to get into, so now I just said 'I'm gonna do it'," Roy said. "There's just all kinds of things to do downtown. People need to rediscover downtown."
