Teen Injured in Weekend Shooting

The following is a Press Release from the Lafayette Police Department:

On September 18, 2011, at approximately 12:45 pm, Lafayette Police responded to the intersection of Mabel Street and Moss Street regarding gunfire. 

When officers arrived on the scene they found no evidence of a disturbance.  Officers were dispatched to a local hospital to meet with the victim of a gunshot wound a short time later.

The victim, a male juvenile in his teens, had suffered a single gunshot wound to the lower abdomen.  

According to investigators, the victim had met with a female near the intersection of Moss Street and Mabel Street, when approximately 10 males approached them. 

A disturbance occurred and one of the suspects produced a silver pistol and fired multiple times.  The victim fled the area on foot, but later realized he had been shot in the abdomen. 

The victim was transported to an area hospital by a friend where police were called. The victim remains hospitalized in stable condition.

 Detectives with the Lafayette Police Department are asking anyone with information about the incident or the identity of the suspects to contact the Lafayette Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.

    The annual rabies clinic hosted by the Calcasieu Parish Policy Jury and Calcasieu Parish Animal Services was held at Burton Coliseum Saturday morning. The event was originally scheduled for Apr. 14 but was canceled due to rain. Hundreds of pet owners lined up in the parking lot to get their cats and dogs vaccinated at the low-cost event.     A Jennings man has been arrested after barricading himself and a hostage in a residence, according to Chief Deputy Christopher Ivey with Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff's Office.     A man has been arrested after a high-speed chase with multiple local law enforcement agencies on Saturday, according to Sgt. James Anderson with Louisiana State Police.
