LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

The Lake Charles City Council approved an ordinance authorizing the Lake Charles Police Department to exceed the $700,000 overtime limit set by the 2007 union contract. The additional overtime costs cannot exceed $110,000. According to city officials a big chunk of police overtime comes from special events such as Mardi Gras - where they accumulated around $50,000 in overtime.
