LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

A Lake Charles girl is painting pictures to raise money to buy goats for families in Africa who are in need of them.

"Goats can help them [families in Africa] to have milk and food," Lauren Anderson, 11, said.

Lauren said the families can also use the extra milk from the goats to sell in the markets.

Lauren sells her paintings for $25 on her website http://www.art4goats.webs.com/. The average cost of a goat is between $50 and $70. Lauren will have to sell at least three paintings in order to buy one goat for a family in Africa.

Her mother, Rachel, said they are just trying to spread hope.

"It's not just about goats, but to show people there that there's other people who care about them," said Rachel.

The money from the paintings sold goes to the Church Missions Network which turns the money over to the pastures in Africa who will then distribute the goats to families.
