Sports Minute: Here is the latest Texas sports news from The Associated Press

(AP) - LeBron James wants to celebrate in the postseason, not midseason. The All-Star Game MVP has work to do; his Cleveland Cavaliers are just third in the Eastern Conference. The Golden State Warriors are also in the unusual position of pursuers when the NBA's sprint to the finish begins Thursday. The Houston Rockets passed the defending champs with 10 straight wins and has the league's best record.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - Baker Mayfield doesn't like comparisons to Johnny Manziel, although the Heisman Trophy winner from Oklahoma wasn't surprised by them after an arrest and other antics during his time with the Sooners. At a stop in his home state of Texas to accept the Davey O'Brien Award as the nation's top quarterback, Mayfield said he and Manziel were "two completely different people." Mayfield will be at the NFL combine next week and is projected as a possible first-round pick in the draft.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Kristy Wallace scored 23 points and had 7 assists as No. 3 Baylor won its eighth consecutive Big 12 championship with a 93-87 win over No. 6 Texas. Wallace scored 14 in the 3rd quarter and rescued the Lady Bears after Texas had started the second half with a charge and briefly held the lead. Wallace scored 8 in a 14-5 run that allowed Baylor to take control of the game again and the Lady Bears kept Texas at a safe distance the rest of the way. Brooke McCarty scored 32 for Texas.

(AP) - Mississippi State's Ben Howland was hardly shocked when South Carolina upset No. 12 Auburn, and doesn't believe his Southeastern Conference men's basketball coaching peers were either. He's not knocking the Tigers but praising the depth of a league that appears poised to get more than six teams into the NCAA Tournament for the first time.

SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) - Adrian Beltre would have brought in some big-time free agents had he been the one making decisions for the Texas Rangers. Beltre says he's not unhappy and does believe that the Rangers can compete for a postseason spot. But he'd like to have the best chance to win. He's at spring training for his 21st big league season and still hoping to win a World Series. The third baseman reached 3,000 career hits in an injury-plagued 2017 season.

ITTA BENA, Miss. (AP) - Dante Scott had a double-double and Jordan Evans scored all of his 14 points in the second half as Mississippi Valley State rallied to beat Prairie View A&M 76-71. Scott finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (AP) - Martaveous McKnight and Terrance Banyard scored 16 points each and Arkansas-Pine Bluff overcame an 18-point deficit to beat Texas Southern 62-61. Demontrae Jefferson's 3-pointer with 3:50 left in the first half gave Texas Southern a 35-17 lead. The Golden Lions scored the next 10 points to close the deficit to eight by halftime and stayed close enough to take their first lead of the game on their final basket, Quamauri Hardy's layup that made it 62-60 with 37 seconds left.
