NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The Louisiana State Racing Commission has delayed action on a new 10-year license for Churchill Downs Inc. to hold horse racing and operate slot machines at The Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans. The commission's decision to delay action Tuesday follows complaints from the Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association and others about conditions at the track.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - Southern Mississippi is searching for its third basketball coach in four seasons. Donnie Tyndall left the Golden Eagles on Tuesday for Tennessee after a successful two-year tenure that included two trips to the NIT quarterfinals.

SEATTLE (AP) - Collin McHugh struck out a career-high 12 in his season debut, and Jason Castro, Chris Carter and Matt Dominguez homered to lift the Houston Astros to a 5-2 win over the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday. McHugh struck out the first three batters of the game to set the tone for his first win in 10 career starts.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Nelson Piquet Jr. will compete in the upcoming Global Rallycross season with new entrant SH Racing. Piquet spent almost two full seasons in Formula One before moving to NASCAR in 2010. SH Racing is owned by James Sullivan, a partner in IndyCar Series team KVSH Racing.
