'Coach Vic' Retiring

AS MUCH OF AN INSTITUTION AT LAGRANGE AS THE SWAMP ITSELF, PATRICK VICTOR, OR COACH VIC AS HE'S KNOWN TO ONE AND ALL, IS CALLING IT A CAREER AFTER MORE THAN A THIRD OF A CENTURY IN THE PURPLE AND WHITE.

COACH VIC BEGAN HIS CAREER AS A TEACHER AND AN ASSISTANT FOOTBALL COACH AT LAGRANGE IN 1977. OVER THE YEARS HE'S SERVED IN THAT ROLE ON BASKETBALL TEAM,THE BASEBALL TEAM, AND THE TRACK TEAM. EVENTUALLY HE BECAME THE HEAD COACH OF THE BOYS TEAM, WHERE HE SERVED WITH GIRLS COACH GORDON THOMPSON.

HOWEVER COACH VIC'S FIRST LOVE IS FOOTBALL, WHERE HE HAS COACHED FATHERS, SONS AND FINALLY THIS GENERATION. COACH VIC HAD A PROFOUND EFFECT ON ONE PLAYER IN PARTICULAR. THE ONE WHO NOW HOLDS THE TITLE HEAD COACH.

NOW FOOTBALL MAYBE COACH VIC'S FIRST LOVE, BUT HIS TRUE LOVE IS HIS WIFE MARY, WHO ALSO TEACHES AT LAGRANGE. DURING HER SUCCESSFUL BATTLE AGAINST BREAST CANCER A FEW YEARS BACK, COACH VIC DEMONSTRATED HIS DEDICATION TO HER.

NOW AFTER 34 YEARS OF PROWLING THE SIDELINES AT THE SWAMP, COACH VIC IS STEPPING DOWN TO A MUCH-DESERVED RETIREMENT. HOWEVER, HIS INFLUENCE ON THE LAGRANGE COMMUNITY WILL CONTINUE RE-VERBERATE FOR YEARS TO COME.
