LAKE CHARLES - Louisiana Monroe scored single runs in the seventh and ninth innings to break up a close game and post a 5-3 non-conference baseball victory over McNeese State here Wednesday night.
The victory lifted ULM's record to 21-19 on the season and left the Cowboys at 20-23.
The Warhawks had taken a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning on a solo home run by Joey Rapp, a bases loaded walk to Jason Hicks and a passed ball.
McNeese opened the scoring with a solo home run by Jace Peterson in the first inning and the Cowboys came back to tie the score with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
A double by Lee Orr, his 20th of the year, plated Peterson in the fifth and Kyler Crenshaw scored on an error after doubling in the sixth inning.
ULM scored the winning run in the seventh on a single by Les Aulds and added an insurance run in the ninth on a ground out by Aulds.
Shelby Aulds, the second of three Warhawk hurlers, collected the victory, his second in three decisions and Dustin Lloyd, the third of five Cowboy pitchers, was tagged with the loss, his fourth in eight decisions.
Aulds hurled 4.2 innings, gave up five hits and two runs and struckout two. Lloyd pitched 3.2 innings, gave three hits and only one run which was the winning run.
James Jones, who pitched the ninth inning for ULM, collected his sixth save of the year.
ULM had nine hits in the game with Rapp and Joey Cesario collecting two each.
McNeese had eight hits and Peterson and Orr had two each.
The victory was the second of the season for ULM over McNeese as the Warhawks had won the earlier meeting in Monroe.
