Diamond Cowgirls Fall to LSU in Extras

LAKE CHARLES--  McNeese softball dropped a 4-2 non-conference game to 21st ranked LSU here Wednesday night in extra innings.

LSU took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on scored a RBI ground out to shortstop by Morgan Russell that scored pinch runner Alex Boulet.  Tammy Wray led the inning off with a single before Boulet came in to pinch run.  The Tigers added a run in the top of the seventh on a wild pitch that scored Simone Heyward for a 2-0 lead.

The Cowgirls came back to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings.  Molly Guidry hit a first pitch solo homerun over the left centerfield wall to cut the lead to 2-1.  Alanna DiVittorio, who injured herself after running into the left field wall after making a spectacular catch in the previous inning, hit her fifth homerun of the season to tie the game.  The Cowgirls couldn't puch across the game winning run, sending it into extra innings.

Cowgirl pitcher retired the Tigers in order in the eighth and the Cowgirls left Stacey Conley, the game winning run stranded on third in the bottom of the inning.

LSU took a 4-2 lead in the ninth in a two RBI single by Anissa Young that scored Heyward and Jacee Blades.  The Cowgirls let another chance to score runs in the ninth as they left the bases loaded.

McNeese picked up six hits while Shepherd allowed nine and struck out eight in the complete game.  The loss drops the Cowgirls to 22-22 overall and Shepherd falls to 13-13 on the year.  LSU improves to 26-12 overall and Rachele Fico improves to 10-8 with the complete game victory.  Fico struck out six and walked three.
