Youth Job Fair set for late April

The following is a news release from the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury:

The Calcasieu Workforce Center will host its 3rd Annual Youth Job Fair 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at the Business and Career Solutions Center located at 4250 5th Avenue, Lake Charles, LA. This job fair is for youth, ages 16 to 24. The job fair is a public service intended to assist youth with their job search and also assist employers in finding qualified applicants to fill their job vacancies. Twenty-five employers are expected be on hand to interview youth for various job openings.

Job Readiness Workshops will also be provided to prepare youth that need job search assistance.  Topics such as resume preparation, job seeking-job keeping skills, interview techniques, how to dress for success, etc. will be presented. The Job Readiness Workshops will be held 3:30 p.m. Monday, April 18, 2011, 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2011, and 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. Monday April 25, 2011.   Youth that are interested in the Job Readiness Workshops should contact Gracie Pettifield, Youth Skills Development Coordinator at 337-475-4900 Extension 130. Please R.S.V.P., seats are limited.

    A large police presence was on Third Street, near La. 14, Thursday morning after receiving a call of a possible kidnapping, said Lt. Richard Harrell, with the Lake Charles Police Department. The person who was the target of the alleged kidnapping is an adult an is in police care, Harrell said. James Anderson of Louisiana State Police.  Anyone who transports a young child in a vehicle is encouraged to take advantage of this service.
